Creation > Consumption 2026

These days I’m particularly devoted; moving from an inspired space with visions of a rich, limitless, and abundant future that God has promised to me, you, and each of us. It’s clear enough to focus on and full of immeasurable impact & love, but it has also asked something very specific of me in return . . .

That I commit to increasing my outflow this year— more writing, more using my voice, and more creating… even when it’s scary, mentally pressing, imperfect, vulnerable, and uncomfortable. ESPECIALLY when.

Woosah! It’s not always an easy thing to say yes to and mean it.

Actually, it was pretty alarming to confront this truth: I’ve been operating in the opposite energy of creation — consumption.

Even as a very intentional girly who infamously stands on business about mainly consuming the best, healthiest, most serving things in my life; from the people within it, to aspirational social feeds, productive books, uplifting music, whole foods, etc. I realize that what I’ve ultimately built for myself over time is a healthy bubble to live in comfortably.

Not only is it comfortable, but it’s also steady, incredibly peaceful, and genuinely fulfilling to have curated a life full of intentional things. From the outside looking in, people have wondered how I’ve managed to create such a paradise for myself while maintaining a gentle character despite chaos in the world. So then . . . what’s the problem?

Well, what I’m learning is that this bubble can also come with a side effect of feeling totally backed up in your expression— which is the actual true means of POWERFUL change-making. Definitely no way for a creative, rich, expansive, and convicted girly like myself to be living life.

I’m aware of and unsettled by the fact that this blockage of potential, fruitful, and valuable creative energy is extremely common and normalized. Many of us are actually experiencing it unconsciously and now defaulting in consumption mode.

An unfortunate self-imposed little coincidence? I think not!

Exploitation within capitalism is dependent on our imbalanced habits with consuming.

Think about your place in this system that thrives on constant inflow. We may wake up, put food into our bodies, put dedicated hours of our energy into other people’s visions at a job, insert your favorite distractions, etc. and only then afterwards might we use our minds to create or produce something new for ourselves and our communities. That is, if we even have the time, the energy, the inspiration, and the willpower to do so anyway.

Our days are so full of taking things in, aligned or not, leaving people (us) who are so Powerful feeling so trapped, uninspired, uncreative, stuck in “survival mode,” like they “lost” their sparks, and so on and so on. This is also how we may lose sight of our self-worth, our higher callings, and how we may dishonor the work that our Ancestors put in for us to be here today.

Gray stagnation clouds! That’s what Inflow without expression eventually turns into.

Careful to not taint our minds with the poison of “this is just how things are, how they’ve always been, and how they’ll always be,” let’s not also forget that you have the power to decide and act differently! After all, nature shows us that “Give and take” is a very natural and necessary exchange of life! We breathe in and we breathe out. Notice I’m not saying that seasons of pause, rest, stillness, going within etc. are not just as apart of the creation process! Personally, I believe that this is where all of creation starts!

What I am saying is that it’s your responsibility to maintain that balance for yourself, be listening to your body, and making the shifts that are best for your Spirit; whether the system will support you in it or not. To know how our society operates, is to also know that any liberation that you desire is to take place only under your own agency.

As for myself, I’ve spent many seasons inside a cocoon. Spirit is now calling me outward, and has been for a while now, like “Create. Expand. Use what you’ve been given.”

Black+African connection of the week:

Nguzo Saba Principle: KUUMBA (CREATIVITY)

“To do always as much as we can, in the way that we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it . . .” Text from Dr. Maulana Karenga’s Kwanzaa: A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture

So, I got really honest with myself. I paused some external commitments that no longer serve me, and I chose to bet on myself and on the creation of a better future again.

It’s exciting, challenging and overwhelming all at once, but also deeply familiar like returning home to younger versions of myself who had nothing but time to be in my imagination thinking big!

Some reminders that I want to offer gently to anyone reading:

First, take notice of your own consumption.

I encourage you to gain your own nonjudgmental awareness of what you consume, how frequently you consume, and then ask yourself . . . is that all?

I truly believe that we have a Creator spirit within us; things our Ancestors left off that we are supposed to create with but for whichever of the many reasons it could be, we aren’t producing anything and we’re feeling poor for it.

Once you’re clear on this, ask yourself what you could create. What could you build? What could you leave in your community and in this world as an extension of yourself? What would this look like?

These questions are so important, especially now that some of us, myself included, aspire to live abundantly off of creating for ourselves, building our own brands, and living as independently as possible– mentally, physically, spiritually AND financially. How can we have these expectations if we never start anywhere?

Finally, that leads me to this . . . start small.

Baby steps are beautiful steps. I’ve also been on a consistent workout journey lately and the one thing that I’ve been learning through it is the importance of easing your way into change so as to not shock your nervous system. You don’t have to create anything monumental, perfect, or even beautiful at first. Just ask God to guide you in setting intentions, commit, and show up putting one foot in front of the other. If creation has been calling you for a while, you might just be surprised by how naturally it flows once you begin. There are seeds planted within you that are ready to be watered now— one step at a time!

Because I believe in practicing what I preach, here I am, beginning once again with a step that feels right for me. Not only is this my first self-published writing since 2022 🎉👏🏾 in conjunction with other exciting projects on the horizon, but I’ve also been DEEP into my DAILY journaling practice for over 2 months straight.

I’m now inviting YOU to join me for my first Beaded Affirmations & Journaling workshop of the year in collaboration with Flow With Coco, a beautiful Black-owned yoga studio space in Washington DC! Do check it out next time you’re in the city . . . There is nothing like a physical safe space that is reflective of the intentionality, warmth and kindheartedness of the owner who is Courtney Williams! Not to mention that the studio is just so cute, girly, and pink inside!

On Saturday, February 28th 2026 from1-3PM we’ll be there at Flow With Coco journaling together, reflecting, sharing discussion, and creating beaded affirmation bracelets as reminders to carry forward. I’m looking forward to facilitating this workshop and closing out Black History Month in such a lovely way.

There is limited space, so I want to encourage you all to get your tickets and secure your spot to this beautiful event! Whether you can make it or not, join my email list for some of the other experiences that I’m going to be creating this year including virtual and self-led workshops.

Finally, I want to close by belaboring the point that your creative energy will influence the whole world— starting with yourself, your family, your friends, your community, your environment, and outward from there. Creativity doesn’t just have to be painting or sculpting or “art” in the traditional sense, but it is also in the words that you speak, the feelings that you leave around you, the thoughts that you bring out in others through your own expression., etc. You are just this powerful, and I pray that you realize your ability to affect goodness. I pray that we expand far beyond fear, capitalism traps, and that we have the courage to grow outside of our cocoons when it’s time. I really look forward to your impact.

With Love,

Wisdom-Ife Baker
